Final Preparation for Grammar and Independent School Entrance Exams
Our Year 6 11+ English course is designed to consolidate key skills, boost self-confidence, and fine-tune exam technique in the final months leading up to 11+ entrance exams.
Building on prior learning, the course offers focused revision and high-level practice across all exam components to ensure students are fully prepared and performing at their best.
This short-term, intensive course is ideal for Year 6 pupils sitting grammar or independent school 11+ exams between September 2025 and February 2026.
Course Content
This course provides expert support and practice across the three core areas of the 11+ English exam, alongside dedicated exam strategy coaching:
•Advanced Reading Comprehension
Pupils will tackle complex fiction, non-fiction, and poetry texts, with a focus on inference, vocabulary in context, and analysing tone, mood, and atmosphere. Responses are guided and refined through structured feedback.
•Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (SPAG)
Targeted review of key technical areas frequently assessed in 11+ exams, with a focus on accuracy and application under timed conditions.
•Creative & Descriptive Writing
Pupils will practise timed writing tasks and learn how to plan, write, edit, and refine their work effectively. Emphasis is placed on structure, clarity, language techniques, and impact. Personalised feedback is given to help pupils elevate their writing.
•Non-Fiction Writing
Includes practice in discursive, persuasive, as well as informal/formal letters, reviews, recounts, and speeches.
•Interview Preparation
For pupils applying to selective independent schools, we provide interview skills coaching, including mock interviews with feedback to help pupils present themselves confidently and authentically.
•Exam Strategy & Technique
Pupils will develop critical test-taking skills including time management, understanding question formats, effective planning, and maintaining focus under pressure.
