Our Year 4 11+ Foundation Course is designed to give pupils a strong and confident start on their 10+ and 11+ journey. This course builds core literacy skills while gradually introducing the content and thinking required for success in grammar and independent school entrance exams.
Through engaging and enriching lessons led by fully qualified top-tier teachers, pupils begin to explore advanced English topics while consolidating their grasp of the Key Stage 2 National Curriculum. The focus is on developing confident readers, capable writers, and technically accurate users of English.

This foundational programme focuses on strengthening core skills and introducing key concepts that will underpin future 10+ and 11+ preparation:

Pupils read and explore a variety of texts—fiction, non-fiction, and poetry—while learning to identify main ideas, infer meaning, interpret vocabulary, and respond thoughtfully to questions.

Pupils are introduced to story planning, character development, use of figurative language, sentence variety, and building atmosphere in writing.

Lessons cover essential sentence structures, word classes, punctuation accuracy, and spelling strategies to improve written precision and fluency.
